Localizado na região Sul do Brasil, o Porto de Imbituba possui características marítimas diferenciadas. Por estar em mar aberto, é o porto com o melhor calado no Sul do Brasil, podendo chegar a 14,5 metros nos seus principais berços de atracação. É também um dos portos com menor variação de amplitude de marés, o que levou o IBGE a estabelecer em Imbituba o Marco Zero, referencial altimétrico do Brasil para todas as medições de altitudes, inclusive as amplitudes de marés.

Located in the south of Brazil, the Port of Imbituba has different maritime characteristics. Being in the open sea, it is the port with the best draft in southern Brazil, reaching up to 14.5 meters in its main berths.
It is also one of the ports with the lowest variation in tidal amplitude – which led IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) to establish in Imbituba what is called Marco Zero (ground zero), Brazilian altimetric reference for all altitude measurements, including tidal amplitudes.
